Backyard S’mores Bar

Backyard S'mores Bar
As we near the end of August [and summer], I decided to gather some friends for a summer send off  reminicent of one of my favorite childhood memories: S’MORES. I’m sure many of you also grew up going to the beach and making these delicious summer sandwiches, but for this party, I wanted to do it sans-sand, and throw a twist on the traditional method. Enter, S’mores Galore S’mores Bar.

THE INVITATIONS
Backyard Smores Bar
I wanted to set the mood for this party as being bright, happy and full of color. Tiny Prints has SO MANY different stationery options that made customizing this party a total breeze. I selected this geometric printed invitation that became the theme for the rest of the party. Not only was it simple to design and customize for my party, Tiny Prints is so easy + wonderful to work with.

THE SET-UP
Since I chose to set up s’mores in a yard rather than the beach, we stayed cleaner, and ate s’mores without the added crunch of sand. I wanted my guests to be comfortable, relaxed and in close range to the food. I set up a short table, colorful blankets and pillows in a semi-circle. I don’t have a fire pit, so I used a mini-BBQ to roast the marshmallows. It worked perfectly, and fit right in to where we were sitting. It is an awesome option to bring your s’mores to your backyard if you don’t have a built in fire pit in your yard, or don’t feel like building a camp fire. Instant “glamping.”

These pillows were awesome to have. Tiny Prints just started selling customizable pillows that not only make excellent seat padding, they are also oh so cute! Even better, the outside cover comes off and is easily washable. I was concerned that chocolate/grass/dirt could ruin the pillow, but the removable cover makes cleaning a non-issue. They now offer a wide range of colors, designs and customization options to fit any party, decor or gifting need.

THE BAR
For this party, the traditional honey graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate bars were not going to be enough. I decided to take that idea, and add tons of customization options (because who doesn’t love a full range of chocolate or toppings?). I had milk, dark and white chocolate, chocolate + peanut butter, chocolate + caramel, chocolate + mint, just to name a few. Want to elevate your s’mores game? Use cookies. Thank me later, you’re never going to eat s’mores the same way again.

THE ROASTING + CREATING
Backyard S'mores Bar
No pit, no problem. Using a mini-BBQ was easy to light, clean and move. I know what I will be doing next time I need some s’mores.

THE DRINKS
Next to the s’mores bar, I had the drink station. I offered, water, juice and sangria. Instead of using overly sweet Moscato for the wine, I opted for Chardonnay, and added more tart fruit to offset the sweetness of the s’mores goodness. Big hit!

To label each drink cup, I used Tiny Prints return address labels, but left them blank while ordering. They became perfect labels for everyones drink’s and their goodie bags.

THE RECIPES + GOODIE BAGS
I thought it would be fun to have everyone write down their s’mores creations. People came up with some amazing ideas. Tiny Prints personalized stationery cards were the perfect size, and come in so many customizable options. I selected these cards, and made some customizations to totally fit the colorful, geometric theme I had. Check back tomorrow to see some of the delicious s’mores recipes we came up with!

Summer Zest

Summer Zest Party
Recently, I got some of my gal pals together for an early summer gathering, to celebrate the warm weather and get excited for the new season. Held at my friends gorgeous apartment in Westwood, we sipped refreshing drinks, ate some delicious food, and got to enjoy each other’s company. Who doesn’t love spending a Saturday with friends and sun!? For this party, I wanted the drinks + pastries to have lemon incorporated to the recipes. Lemons are such a great addition to a summer beverage, and also pack in some great health benefits.

The Set Up

I used Minted for all the adorable paper party decor. Not only do they have a wide variety of designs to choose from, they have customization options so you can create your perfect party. I chose a theme that had some yellow + mint colors, since I knew that would be a great canvas for the vibrant lemons. Minted also makes it so easy to set up your decorations, providing the necessary supplies with your order. Seriously adorable and oh so fun.

The Treats

The cupcakes + cake pops were B-E-A-Utiful and oh so delicious. Dots Cupcakes in Pasadena knows their cupcakes, and every gal couldn’t believe how cute + yummy they were. What’s a party without some adorable cupcakes? The two flavors both had hints of lemon that complimented the cocktails so well, Strawberry Lemonade and Lemon Drop. YUM.

The first beverage I served was a Rosemary Lemon Margarita. Super easy to make, this drink was tasty and very well received.

 Ingredients:
Lemons/Lemon Juice
Club Soda
Sugar
Tequila
Rosemary Sprig

I lined the rims with pink Himalayan salt, rather than traditional white. (Full recipe here).

The second lemon infused drink I served was White Wine Sangria, a must for an early afternoon get together. I used ONEHOPE wine, a company that not only makes great wine, but also gives back to the community.

Ingredients:
1 bottle of ONEHOPE Sauvignon Blanc
1 bottle ONEHOPE Sparkling Wine (optional topper just before serving)
1 cup raspberries
lime slices (1/2 lime)
orange slices (1/2 large navel orange)
orange juice (from 2nd half of large navel orange or ~1/4 cup)
lemon slices (1 lemon)

(Recipe adapted from here.)

Jessie: I was a crafty, stay-at-home mama that found a creative outlet planning parties for my children.   I loved sourcing unique products, as well as creating handmade elements for the parties.  I was lucky enough to turn that into a business!

Target Holiday Finds

It seems like in the past year, Target has been putting out more and more well-designed products in great packaging. Anytime I go to Target, it is a minimum of a 45 minute excursion, even if I only need two things.  This year especially, their holiday collections have been very well curated and awesome. I applaud the creative team behind it! Take a look at my favorites below.
Target Holiday
1: Loving these antlers, and would totally leave them up well into January
2: I love the slight sheen these woodgrain plates have, adding another level of dimension
3: These adorable reindeer salt and pepper shakers look great, and can double as decor on your holiday table
4: I get a “Chronicles of Narnia” feel from these wine toppers, with three variations to choose from
5: The shaker, martini glass and napkins look great together, or as individual items to create a perfect drink
6: How awesome are these wine bottles?! No gift wrapping needed. Check out this wine created by Alexis Swanson Traina for Target

What about you? What are your Target holiday favorites??

Trophy Cupcakes in LA

I look forward to the parties that Urbanic throws every couple of months. Last night’s party featured a delicious Seattle-based company, Trophy Cupcakes, and celebrated release of their new book, Cupcakes & Parties. We sipped champagne, ate some adorable mini cupcakes and created an adorable badge. Take a look at some of the photos from last night.

Sunny Spot

This weekend, as part of my pre-birthday celebration, some girlfriends and I went to an adorable brunch spot in Venice. There are so many cute places to try, but Sunny Spot’s bottomless mimosas and interesting menu caught my eye. The interior design and decorations are so well done, a mix between shabby chic and floral heaven. I highly recommend this place if you’re ever in the mood for a delicious brunch, and endless bottomless mimosas. I know I will be there again soon!

Sangria Saturday

Since moving to Los Angeles, I have developed a great love for sangria. I don’t know why it took so long for me to discover this. Fruit, pop (or soda, as many call it) + wine? Genius! This weekend, I had some girlfriends over to sip sangria and celebrate the summertime on my rooftop. I picked up some adorable paper straws, designed little menu cards and used mason jars for cups. I had two variations of sangria, and both were a big hit. I prefer my sangria to just be wine, rather than adding other types of alcohol to it. I find that it is sweeter, and doesn’t give you a headache. Sangria is the perfect compliment to Saturday brunch, or an after work BBQ. Both recipes that I used are posted below. Special thanks to my friend Ryan for some of her awesome pics below!
