In honor of Earth Day, I have decided to start a new series on the blog: America the Beautiful. I love traveling around to new places and discovering the beauty it holds, be it natural or man made. I decided to start with Joshua Tree National Park, located about an hour outside of Palm Springs, California. I had an awesome time hiking around there this weekend, taking in all the incredible sights and trails. It is such a unique area, and the photos don’t do it justice. If you ever vacay to Palm Springs, I highly suggest taking a couple hours to check out this gorgeous park.
I cannot get over how gorgeous the desert landscape is. So unique and beautiful in its own way.
The brown color of the rocks and ground mixed with the various green colors of the plants makes for a gorgeous color palette.
Happy Earth Day! Don’t forget to look at the beauty around you today, and every day!

Jess in the City (My NY Recap)
3-27-14
I can’t believe it is a week since I jetted off for an amazing weekend in the big apple. I had the best time seeing old and new friends, exploring and just taking in everything New York has to offer. What a fun city, and I totally fell in love with so many parts. Check out some of the highlights below.
Central Park–The weather was perfect the entire time I was there!
Walking the Brooklyn Bridge was definitely a highlight.
Ok seriously, I was obsessed. The view was UNREAL.
I spent a good amount of time in BK, and it was awesome. I had no idea how big it was!
Rooftop view from Berry Park
Yes, it may seem weird that my friends took me to get tacos in NY, but the vibe of this place was awesome (and the tacos were pretty good too!)
Freedom Tower
Ended the trip with Soul Cycle, blowouts and a goodbye dinner with the lovely Elizabeth of Bonjour + Hola. Such a great hostess. (All I can say is thank you Alt Summit for introducing me to this señorita. “HOLA!”)
Coming next week, my Mast Brothers exploration with Christy (who is FANTASTIC.)

Journey of a Dress

This weekend, I visited the Diane von Furstenberg Journey of a Dress exhibit at LACMA. It was…amazing, inspiring, colorful and full of life. If you are in the LA area, it is a MUST see. Check out some of the awesome photos below. The prints were unreal, and the space is absolutely so well done.

This week I have been at Altitude Design Summit, which is something I have been so looking forward to. I’m loving getting to blog, doing all sorts of design projects and getting to meet new people. This conference seemed like the perfect interesection of all three, and let me tell you I am LOVING it. Definitely check it out. Coming was taking a chance for me, and I am so glad I did!
I like a lot of san serif fonts that are tall and not too thick. Kenzo meets both of those requirements, and I love how it looks as a display type. Enjoy and have a great week!

December in Review

I think each month starts to go by faster and faster. Here’s a quick recap of my December. It consisted of lots of holiday celebrations, family time and cookie decorating, with UniqueLA, a trip to the PacNW and a fun cocktail photo shoot thrown in! Hope your first full week of 2014 is off to a great start!

Fall Flowers
11-25-13
I love flowers, and have been hearing for quite some time how amazing the LA Flower Mart is. Last weekend, I had to check it out for myself, and it did not disappoint. So many gorgeous, interesting flowers everywhere, and at such reasonable prices. Note to self: Get there earlier next time! The mart is open from 6am–2pm (on weekends) and many vendors start to pack up around 12. I was on the hunt to find some fall flowers to make table center pieces for Friendsgiving. [Check it out here + here]
I came back with quite a haul! Trust me, it is hard to stop yourself.
Special thanks to Yael Nov for accompanying me and photographing our day at the Flower Mart!

Trophy Cupcakes in LA
10-16-13
I look forward to the parties that Urbanic throws every couple of months. Last night’s party featured a delicious Seattle-based company, Trophy Cupcakes, and celebrated release of their new book, Cupcakes & Parties. We sipped champagne, ate some adorable mini cupcakes and created an adorable badge. Take a look at some of the photos from last night.
You can see the badge I made (from cupcake tins!) on the bottom left! Such a fun evening!

Pasadena Flea Market

On the second Sunday of every month, the Rose Bowl becomes the biggest treasure hunt/yard sale/antique shop I have ever seen. There is everything from furniture, to denim cut offs + you can find some really interesting items. The more serious shoppers get there around 6 am to score the best items. I got there around 11, just to browse. A tip if you attend next month: it gets HOT HOT HOT. Bring water, sunscreen and dress appropriately.
A lot of vendors have miscellaneous items spread out for you to search through, as seen above. However, I found two different booths that had more of a concentration, and were laid out so well.
The couple who was selling all of this colored glass, did so in a way you couldn’t help but walk over to. The glass was organized and neat, and it was pretty cool to see the vintage colored bottles. Next time I need a vase, I know where I’m going!
I think this was possibly the most interesting table I saw on Sunday. This man had acquired trinkets, all with a steampunk vibe, and organized them in a way for you to search through. I loved his wooden stamps and buckets of loose letters. I am definitely brainstorming some craft ideas.
Happy Wednesday!

Happy July!

It has been just about two months since I started this blog, and it has been so much fun! I decided it was time to reveal who I am! I always enjoy reading blogs where I can put a face to the voice. So…(cue the New Girl theme song…”who’s that girl….”)
This is me! I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and moved to California in for college. I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design, and knew immediately I wanted to move to Los Angeles. After working in the graphic design world for two years now, I decided to start this blog as another creative outlet.
I love living in California, especially in Los Angeles. There is so much to do, see and explore, and design is everywhere. I’m always keeping my eye out for beautiful packaging, awesome logos, happy color combinations, talented local artists and a delicious gluten free cupcake. This blog also documents my adventures as a twenty-something discovering a new city with so much to offer.
Thanks for stopping by and reading! A huge thank you to my friend Beth for helping take these photos of me, and driving around town to find the perfect spot!
