Font Friday 2.1

I cannot believe we are in August already! Time is FLYING!! I keep coming across some awesome fonts, so I chose two to share with you all today! Have a great weekend!
Watercolor Map and type
I’ve been loving watercolors and the color gray lately, not for any specific reason. I find this typeface to be inspiring, playful and versatile [as a headline]. Ontwerp can be downloaded here.

Biko Font
Biko is a great font that comes in three weights [regular, bold + black], and is also great for headlines or body [if you use upper+lowercase]. I love how even the letters all align on the top and bottom. What are your thoughts??

Font Friday 2.0

Today marks the 10th Font Friday, and therefor my 10th week of blogging! It has been a juggling act, trying to fit in working, freelancing, blogging and having a life away from my beloved laptop, but I love it! Hope you all have some fun things planned for this weekend. Enjoy today’s summery font!
Baffled summer font
It has been pretty gloomy here in LA the last few days, but I can’t complain. It’s always nice in LA! This font is called Baffled. I recommend using it in all upper case [as shown], as opposed to upper and lower. As you can see, the upper case has some shorter letters built in that look like lowercase. It is a fun font, great for a display name. [image from Flikr]

Happy Friday!

Font Friday 1.6

Happy [late] Independence Day and Friday! It has been a crazy few days, so I am just now getting to show you my latest font finds. Hope you all had a great 4th, and keep your eye out for my upcoming post on the decorations and designs I created for the festivities.

Freedom Lovelo Font
Lovelo earlier this week and am really liking it. I love the width of the letters, and that it comes with an interesting semi-outlined version in a bold and light.
FR2S Klinic Slab
I enjoy this quote by Leo Tolstoy , and this font from Lost Type Co-op, Klinic. It comes in four different weights, each with italics as well. This typeface works well both large and small, and is quickly becoming a favorite among me and my design friends.

Happy weekend!

Font Friday 1.3

With all this June gloom here in LA I forget that it is summer time! However, this weekend is supposed to get nice + be a little warmer. Happy Friday to all, and enjoy these fonts.
FR2S Font Friday Airbag
I recently discovered this font, Airbag. I think it is an awesome font for a headline, or poster, so you can see the detail in the shadow.
FR2S Font Friday Quicksand
I love this song by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and this typeface called Quicksand. It has several different weights, and a dotted line version. It is great for both large and small text, and the variations are an added bonus!

Have a great weekend!

Sangria Saturday

Since moving to Los Angeles, I have developed a great love for sangria. I don’t know why it took so long for me to discover this. Fruit, pop (or soda, as many call it) +¬†wine? Genius! This weekend, I had some girlfriends over to sip sangria and celebrate the summertime on my rooftop. I picked up some adorable paper straws, designed little menu cards and used mason jars for cups. I had two variations of sangria, and both were a big hit. I prefer my sangria to just be wine, rather than adding other types of alcohol to it. I find that it is sweeter, and doesn’t give you a headache. Sangria is the perfect compliment to Saturday brunch, or an after work BBQ. Both recipes that I used are posted below. Special thanks to my friend Ryan for some of her awesome pics below!

Mumford & Sons Prints

Part of my present to the special birthday boy were three prints that I designed, each with a different Mumford & Sons song lyric. I tried to emulate their style, preppy, yet outdoorsy (“Mumford-y” as I call it, take a look at their website here) to create a cohesive group. I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. The frames are each 11.75″x15.75″, found at IKEA, with the actual print being 8.5″x11″.

Mumford & Sons Dustbowl Dance
I thought the craft paper complimented the gold chevron paper (both from Urbanic, my favorite stationery store) and made the posters really stand out.

The three prints also were done in a color scheme that matches his room.

To wrap it all up, I wanted to carry through the look and feel of the posters, so I used the same craft + chevron paper as in the backers. I found this adorable bow tutorial from How About Orange blog, found here. Mumford & Sons Bow

The birthday boy was quite pleased, and we will be putting them up on his wall shortly. Happy Wednesday!
