Walking Downtown LA: Part 3

The final surprise on Saturday was a trip to the San Antonio Winery, located right past downtown Los Angeles. It is the only winery located in Los Angeles proper, and I had no idea it was there. What an awesome spot! I highly recommend going to this winery for a quick day trip if you don’t feel like driving too far, a girls day or great date spot. Plus, taking the metro eliminates the need to drive! (Win-win for all!) The winery offers a tour of their space, a cafe, restaurant and a tasting bar. They also have several of their own brands of wine that are quite delicious. I am a moscato + reisling fan, and I fell in love with both of theirs.

The cafe offers wine by the glass, as well as snack plates. We got the cheese platter and it was more than enough for two, and quite filling.

I can’t wait to come back to this winery! I also highly recommend the tour of the winery. It’s quick, entertaining and informative.

Walking Downtown LA: Part 2

The second part of my Saturday birthday surprise was a trip to Bottega Louie. Since we were already in downtown, it was only a quick walk away. Visiting this patisserie + market  has been on my LA bucket list for a long time. Walking in to Bottega Louie was like walking into heaven. The floors and counters are a beautiful white and grey marble, and the glass display holds the most beautiful and colorful desserts. You immediately feel transported to Paris or New York. The sights, smells and sounds are overwhelming in the best way possible. Although I am gluten free, I still loved looking at all the desserts. I cannot wait to go back and eat at their restaurant.

How gorgeous are these colorful macarons!? I’ll take one in every color please!

This box of assorted macarons would be perfect for a hostess gift, or as desserts at your own party.

Adding to the elegance of Bottega Louie is the beautiful packaging they do. They have both branded tissue paper and boxes, very reminiscent of what you may find in Paris. Their pastel colors + gold complement their brightly colored desserts in such a classy way.

If macarons aren’t your favorite dessert, they have a wide variety of other delicious looking treats. I cannot wait to go back!

Happy Wednesday!

My Birthday!

FR2S Birthday Girl
Birthdays are a great thing to have (for many obvious reasons), and are a friendly reminder that you are loved by so many around you. It is also a time for me to reflect on the past year, things I did that worked, and things I did that didn’t work so well. What I hope to achieve in my next year of life, and what I already have achieved. Today I turned 24 (despite the fact that I still look like I am in high school), a great age if you ask me. Sometimes I forget that I am ONLY 24, and it’s OK if I’m still not the best at balancing my checkbook, keeping my room tidy or being an efficient trip packer. All of those things will come in time, but I know thanks to the awesome family and friends around me, I have a solid rock foundation (Shout out to all those who made my birthday celebration week so special!). This year, I decided to make a list of things that I want to work on now that I am 24. Some of them are easy and fun, and others are things that I constantly have to remind myself to do.  My favorite is number 10 (see below). So simple, yet one of the hardest things to do.  I call them my “Half Yearly Resolutions” since my birthday also takes place halfway through the calendar year, a good time to reassess my New Years Resolutions. Do any of you have Half Yearly Resolutions you set for yourselves? What keeps you motivated or on track now that we have hit the six month mark?

Thanks for all the birthday love! xoxo Jess

Sunny Spot

This weekend, as part of my pre-birthday celebration, some girlfriends and I went to an adorable brunch spot in Venice. There are so many cute places to try, but Sunny Spot’s bottomless mimosas and interesting menu caught my eye. The interior design and decorations are so well done, a mix between shabby chic and floral heaven. I highly recommend this place if you’re ever in the mood for a delicious brunch, and endless bottomless mimosas. I know I will be there again soon!

I love the painted type on the wall, and the bright turquoise color. It is hard to miss when you pass by it.

They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We lucked out with the weather while sitting outside. It was just perfect.

Mumford & Sons Prints

Part of my present to the special birthday boy were three prints that I designed, each with a different Mumford & Sons song lyric. I tried to emulate their style, preppy, yet outdoorsy (“Mumford-y” as I call it, take a look at their website here) to create a cohesive group. I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. The frames are each 11.75″x15.75″, found at IKEA, with the actual print being 8.5″x11″.

I thought the craft paper complimented the gold chevron paper (both from Urbanic, my favorite stationery store) and made the posters really stand out.

The three prints also were done in a color scheme that matches his room.

To wrap it all up, I wanted to carry through the look and feel of the posters, so I used the same craft + chevron paper as in the backers. I found this adorable bow tutorial from How About Orange blog, found here. Mumford & Sons Bow

The birthday boy was quite pleased, and we will be putting them up on his wall shortly. Happy Wednesday!
